After annexation of Oromiyaa, the Abyssinian colonial rulers (past and present from Minilik, Zewditu, Haile Sillasie, Mengistu, and Meles of today), stripped the Oromos of their human, economic, and political rights. Abyssinians used all possible means at their disposal to destroy the Oromo identity – language, culture, and history. They suppressed the aspiration of the Oromo people to be free. However, the people of Oromiyaa have never succumbed to the Abyssinian colonial domination in all its forms. With varying degree of magnitude and intensity, they have remained struggling to free themselves and their country Oromiyaa.
